Luis Peique Mencía 2018

The Luis Peique Mencía 2018 is a limited-production red wine that embodies the essence of the Mencía grape from the Bierzo region in Spain. Crafted from nearly century-old vines, this wine captures the tradition and unique character of its local terroir.

Vineyard and Winemaking
The Mencía grapes used in this wine come from vines aged between 80 and 90 years, planted at altitudes ranging from 450 to 580 meters above sea level. The harvest is carried out manually, ensuring careful selection of the best bunches.

After a five-day cold maceration, alcoholic fermentation takes place in new 500-liter French oak barrels over twelve days. A post-fermentative maceration follows for about 35 days, along with malolactic fermentation in the same barrels. The wine then ages for 16 months in French oak, allowing it to develop depth and complexity.

Tasting Notes
Color: A deep, dark cherry red hue.
Aroma: Intense and complex, with fresh red fruit and delicate floral notes.
Palate: Powerful yet refined, with ripe tannins and a smooth acidity that lends balance and elegance to the wine.
Pairing Suggestions
This versatile Mencía pairs beautifully with:

Red Meats: Grilled or roasted, enhancing the bold flavors of the dish.
Aged Cheeses: Providing a delightful contrast to the wine’s fruit-forward profile.
Mediterranean Dishes: Such as lamb with herbs or roasted vegetables.
An exceptional wine to savor on special occasions or to explore the richness of the Bierzo terroir.
